Ever popular, but potentially dangerous, candles and their accessories are a leading cause of household fires causing damage to property and injuring people, sometimes fatally. Meet applicable standards, reduce product recalls and improve safety for consumers with candle and candle accessory testing from SGS and its global network of testing laboratories.
Protect consumers and prove that your products meet or exceed the regulatory safety requirements for candles and their accessories. Developing compliant products from the beginning saves time and money. The most common causes of candle fires and burn injuries are:
- Excessive flame height
- Secondary wick ignition (e.g. the wick may not be centered correctly)
- Burn through of the side wall
- End of life (what happens at the end of the burning process)
- Instability of the candle, or candle accessory
- Excessive thermal heat on candle holders
- Lack of adequate consumer warnings
The US specifies ASTM F2179 Standard Specification for Annealed Soda-Lime-Silicate Glass Containers for testing the potential risk. SGS will also perform some designed testing for clients to ensure the safety physical issue.
In addition, the test will be conducted in compliance with chemical requirements with the following standards

Test Description
There are specific standards required to be tested for compliance in the US and EU markets. Therefore, the following tests will be included according to the US / EU market test package.
