Service Scope
Writing instruments such as Roller Ball Pen / Gel ink Ball Pen / Ball point Pen & Pencil – chemical requirements shall be reviewed for these items.
Standards BS 7272 & ISO 14145 are designed for the safety requirement on the pen cap & end closure.
ISO 27668-1 establishes the minimum quality requirements for gel ink ball pens (refillable and non-refillable) and refills for general use. Additional requirements for gel ink ball pens for documentary use are given in ISO 27668-2.
ISO 12757-1 establishes the minimum quality requirements for ball point pens (refillable or non-refillable) and refills for general use. Additional requirements for ball point pens for documentary use are given in ISO 12757-2.
In the U.S., Labeling of Hazardous Art Materials Act (LHAMA) Evaluation shall be performed if the writing instrument is used to be as Art Material. An ingredient and Labeling review will be performed based on the ingredients and packaging. Generally “Conforms to ASTM D4236” will be required if no additional warning is required.
Toxicological Risk Assessment (TRA) is a kind of ingredients review. TRA is used to access the ingredients used in the writing instrument to avoid any potential issue(s) to the user. It is not mandatory but has already been adopted in the market.

Test Description
There are specific standards required to be tested for compliance in the US and EU markets. Therefore, the following tests will be included according to the US / EU market test package.

| LHAMA Toxicological review | For stationary designed as an art material, ingredient list shall be provided to certified Toxicologist for reviewing under US ASTM D4236. |

Remarks
Only applicable test items will be conducted on selected product nature and destination market. Detailed test item list will be included in order confirmation email upon order purchase. If the battery is included, additional battery requirements shall be arranged.
